After analysing the experiences of other Italian and European institutions in the field of accessibility, La Scala has decided to extend its offer by developing and supporting a project to bring the blind and deaf communities, both signers and non-signers, closer to the performances of the season.
In addition to what the theatre has already offered in recent years to people with different types of disability, the main objective of this pilot project is to provide tools for interpreting opera, developed on the basis of the specific needs of blind and deaf people.

THE PROJECT
After the success of the first stage of this project, in which more than 100 blind and deaf people took part in six opera performances between March and July 2023, La Scala has decided to continue investing in and promoting its efforts to make the arts accessible to a larger audience by continuing to develop and implement the resources tested.
Over the next three seasons (2023/2024 - 2024/2025 - 2025/2026), La Scala will:
- Open the doors to its audiences with sensory disabilities for more operas, ballets and children's operas through a series of support tools, reinforcing its efforts to build a solid internal structure capable of meeting the challenges of accessibility.
- Study the best solutions for the removal of architectural barriers compatible with its status as a historic building.
